Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 August 2026

This describes exactly what Byte collects, why it collects it, who else sees it, how long it is kept, and how you get it deleted. It is written to match what the app actually does. If you find something here that the app does not do, that is a bug in this page and we want to hear about it.

1. Who we are

Byte is an iOS application that teaches Python interview patterns, made by MINT LLC ("we", "our", "us"). This policy covers the Byte app and this website. Byte is the product; MINT LLC is the company responsible for your information.

The data controller is MINT LLC, a Connecticut limited liability company, United States. You can reach us at support@minttech.org about anything in this policy.

2. What we collect

Your account

When you create an account we store your email address, the username you choose, and the date you signed up. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the identifier and email address that service gives us. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and we never see or store them in readable form.

If you contact us

If you email support, we receive your email address and the contents of your message, and we keep the thread for as long as it takes to resolve and a reasonable period after.

What you tell us during setup

Byte asks a set of questions the first time you open it. Your answers power the earning projection shown during setup, set your daily goal and reminders, and appear in the About You section of your profile, where you can review and edit them. Every one of these is optional and most offer a "prefer not to say" answer. Skipping them does not restrict the app. We store:

WhatDetail
Age rangeA coarse range; the youngest option the app offers is 13 to 17. Never your exact date of birth.
Income rangeA band for what you currently earn. Never an exact figure, and never any account or payment detail.
EducationUniversity, degree level, programme and year of study.
WorkEmployment status, whether you are a student, career stage, and the role you are aiming at.
Learning preferencesYour goals, prior experience, topics you want to focus on, when you like to study, your daily minute target, whether you tapped the commitment pledge, and your answer to the sample question.
How you found usThe referral source you pick from a list.
RemindersWhether you want them, and at what times.

Your income range and target role are the two inputs to the earning projection shown during setup. They power a feature you can see, not a hidden profile.

What you create by using Byte

As you work through modules we record your progress: how many questions you have attempted, which ones you have answered correctly, which modules you have completed, your XP total, your run of consecutive correct answers, your daily streak and your best streak, the badges you have earned, the days you practised, and how many seconds you spent practising. Practice time is only counted while you are actually inside a module or a lesson tour.

Technical information

We store your device's time zone offset, so that streaks and daily goals roll over at midnight where you are rather than midnight somewhere else, and the time you were last active. Our hosting and database providers process your IP address in order to serve requests and to protect against abuse.

Membership

We store whether your membership is active, when it expires, where it came from, and when to send your trial reminder. We never receive your card details. Payments are taken by Apple, and our paywall provider tells us only whether you are entitled to access.

What we do not collect

3. Why we use it

We do not use your information to make any decision about you that has a legal or similarly significant effect, and there is no automated decision-making of that kind in Byte.

4. Legal bases

If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, we rely on the following bases under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR:

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your information and we do not share it for advertising. We use a small number of processors to run the service, and each only receives what it needs:

This website loads nothing from any third party: its fonts are served from this site. It sets no cookies and has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to establish or defend legal claims, or if Byte is ever sold or merged, in which case we will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different policy.

6. How long we keep it

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights. They are free to exercise and we will respond within one month.

If you are in California, you also have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not offer financial incentives for your data, and we do not sell or share it.

If you are in Connecticut, these rights are guaranteed by the Connecticut Data Privacy Act, and because we are a Connecticut company we honour them for everyone.

To exercise any of these, email support@minttech.org from the address on your account.

If we decline a request, we will tell you why, and you can appeal by replying to our decision; we will answer the appeal within 60 days. If you are still unsatisfied, you can raise it with your data protection authority, including the Connecticut Attorney General.

8. Deleting your account

You can delete your account from inside the app, without emailing anyone and without talking to us: open Settings from your Profile and choose to delete your account. This is a real deletion, not a deactivation.

Deleting your Byte account does not cancel your membership, because Apple bills it, not us. Cancel it in your App Store subscription settings.

9. Children

Byte is for ages 13 and up. You must be at least 13 to create an account, and the youngest age range the app offers is 13 to 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and if we learn that we hold information from a child under 13, we delete the account and its data.

If you are 13 to 17, please use Byte with the involvement of a parent or guardian, and in the UK and the EEA only where you are old enough to consent to online services yourself under your country’s rules, which set that age between 13 and 16.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us information, email support@minttech.org and we will delete it.

10. International transfers

Our providers may store or process information outside the country you live in, including in the United States. Where information leaves the UK or the EEA we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, together with our providers' own safeguards. You can ask us for details of the safeguards used.

11. Security

Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Data is encrypted at rest by our database provider. Access to production data is restricted, and database access rules mean a signed-in account can only reach its own rows. Session tokens are held in the device's secure storage. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach ever affects you we will tell you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.

12. Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and where the law requires it we will ask for your consent again.

13. Contact

Email support@minttech.org. We answer from that address for everything in this policy, including rights requests.

Byte is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Apple, Google, or any company whose interview process it prepares you for.
